Safe system removals, hydrating paraffin treatments, callus management, and restorative hand/foot care.
About these services
The nail treatments and removal menu at Mary Nails in Coconut Grove covers safe product removals, hydrating paraffin treatments, callus care, and restorative hand and foot extras. Our menu covers eight services, and the most important thing to understand is which of them are add-ons layered onto another appointment and which require a manicure booking.
Gel Polish Removal and Nail System Removal each must be booked with a manicure. They are never standalone appointments, because the condition of the natural nail after removal determines what we can safely apply next. Callus Treatment is added to a pedicure. French tips and ombré, covered on the nail art page, are design additions rather than complete appointments.
This page explains each of the eight services, what each includes, the booking restrictions, who it suits, and how to prepare. We do not invent the steps of the 4-Step Treatment or the exact procedure covered by System Change, and we do not provide aggressive do-it-yourself removal instructions.
Gel polish removal versus nail system removal
Gel Polish Removal is the careful removal of existing gel polish, using a gentle e-file top-layer break and a professional soak-off. It applies to the thin color coating used in gel manicures and pedicures. Nail System Removal is the complete professional removal of artificial systems, including acrylic, Gel-X tips, hard gel, polygel, and dip powder, while preserving the natural nail plate thickness.
Both must be booked with a manicure. We do not perform either removal as a standalone or walk-in service, because the natural nail needs immediate care and a product decision after the old product is taken off. Mention your existing product when booking so we can plan the time.
Add-ons and what they attach to
Callus Treatment is an add-on applied to a pedicure, using a professional callus softener on tough heel build-up before smooth file reduction. Paraffin wax treatments for hands and feet are separate add-ons that deeply moisturize dry skin. The 4-Step Treatment and Foot Massage Equipment are further add-ons that enhance a manicure or pedicure.
We do not assume every add-on is compatible with every base service. System Change transitions from one enhancement system to another, such as acrylic to hard gel or Gel-X, and includes controlled removal of the previous product and preparation for the new system. We do not invent the exact contents of System Change or the 4-Step Treatment beyond what is confirmed.
Polygel and dip: removal only
Polygel and dip powder appear in the Nail System Removal service because we remove them safely. The presence of these systems in the removal menu does not mean that new polygel or dip application sets are offered. Do not infer that polygel or dip application is available simply because removal is listed.
If you currently wear polygel or dip and want a change, book Nail System Removal with a manicure, and we will discuss the systems we do offer for your next set.
How to prepare for a removal or treatment appointment
For any removal, book it alongside a manicure and mention your existing product. Arrive with clean, lotion-free hands if possible. Do not attempt aggressive at-home removal before your visit, as peeling or heavy filing can thin and damage the natural nail plate.
For paraffin and callus treatments, no special preparation is needed beyond arriving with clean skin. These add-ons are scheduled as part of a manicure or pedicure appointment.
Aftercare and what to expect
After a removal, the natural nail may feel softer or more sensitive for a short time as it recovers its natural oil balance. We apply a nourishing oil treatment and advise on the best next step, whether that is a reinforcing rubber base, a gentler regular polish, or a fresh enhancement system.
After paraffin, skin stays soft and hydrated; avoid harsh soaps for the rest of the day to prolong the effect. After callus treatment, keep the heels moisturized to slow the return of rough skin. We do not describe paraffin or other salon treatments as cures for pain, arthritis, or other medical conditions.
Planning a removal or treatment visit
The most common booking mistake on this menu is treating a removal as a standalone service. Because Gel Polish Removal and Nail System Removal must each be booked with a manicure, the right way to plan a removal visit is to book the removal alongside the manicure you want next, whether that is a basic gel manicure, a rubber base manicure, a Dazzle Dry manicure, or a natural-nail classic manicure. This lets us assess the natural nail immediately after removal and apply the right product in the same visit.
If you are changing enhancement systems, System Change combines removal and a fresh installation in one appointment, which is more efficient than booking removal and a full set separately. Mention your current system and the system you want next so we can plan the time, since a full change is a longer appointment than a simple removal. If you are not sure which system to move to, we will recommend based on the condition of your natural nails after removal rather than a generic preference.
For the add-on treatments, think of them as enhancements to a base service rather than services on their own. Paraffin, the 4-Step Treatment, Foot Massage Equipment, and Callus Treatment each attach to a manicure or pedicure and are scheduled as part of that appointment. Telling us your goals, such as dry heels or tired feet, lets us recommend the right combination rather than stacking every add-on, which is rarely necessary and can extend the appointment longer than you need.

Do I need to book removal separately, or can it be a standalone appointment?
Gel Polish Removal and Nail System Removal must each be booked with a manicure. They are never standalone appointments, because the natural nail needs immediate care and a product decision after the old product is taken off. Mention your existing product when booking.
What is the difference between gel polish removal and nail system removal?
Gel polish removal removes the thin color coating used in gel manicures and pedicures. Nail system removal removes full artificial systems, including acrylic, Gel-X, hard gel, polygel, and dip powder, while preserving the natural nail plate thickness. Both must be booked with a manicure.
Does the removal menu mean you offer polygel or dip application?
No. Polygel and dip appear in the removal service because we remove them safely. The presence of these systems in the removal menu does not mean that new polygel or dip application sets are offered. Book removal with a manicure and we will discuss the systems we do offer.
Is Callus Treatment a standalone service?
No. Callus Treatment is an add-on applied to a pedicure, not a standalone service. It uses a professional softener on tough heel build-up before smooth file reduction. It is most relevant for the deep and luxury pedicures but can be added to other pedicures when appropriate.
What does System Change include?
System Change transitions from one enhancement system to another, such as acrylic to hard gel or Gel-X. It includes controlled removal of the previous product and preparation for the new system. We do not invent the exact procedure beyond what is confirmed; mention your current and desired systems when booking.
Are paraffin and the 4-Step Treatment medical treatments?
No. Paraffin and the 4-Step Treatment are cosmetic hydrating and conditioning add-ons. We do not describe them as cures for pain, arthritis, or other medical conditions. They leave skin soft, hydrated, and comfortable.
